Phased Campus Wide Network Overhaul Using HPE Aruba Technology
NextGen Networking is pleased to announce our ongoing project with a college in Maidenhead, where we are undertaking a comprehensive overhaul of their network infrastructure. From ground-up recabling to advanced network design and switching, we are implementing a high-performance, campus-wide solution. While wireless connectivity is part of the project, the primary focus is revamping the entire network system to meet the college’s growing requirements.
Project Overview: A Comprehensive Solution for the College Campus
Following detailed assessments and close consultation with the college administration, we designed a high speed network with tailored solutions to serve the college’s 15 building campus. Our work includes:
- Recabling
Replacing outdated cabling infrastructure to support higher data throughput and improved reliability.
- Network Design and Switching
Implementing advanced network switches and designing a scalable architecture that supports future expansion.
- Wireless Connectivity
Installing wireless access points to improve mobility and accessibility across the campus.
Given the extensive use of college facilities during term time, installations have been scheduled during holiday periods to minimise disruption. The project is structured in phases, allowing significant progress during each break without affecting normal campus activities.
Phase One: Installation and Configuration
- Network Infrastructure
Installation of 32 HPE Aruba access switches and four fully redundant core switches connected to a Juniper firewall, all configured and tested.
- Recabling Efforts
Extensive recabling across critical areas to support the new infrastructure.
- Wireless Access Points
Installation of 40 HPE Aruba 515RW access points.
- Next Steps
During this initial phase, the focus has been on establishing a robust network foundation. Installing switches and structured cabling ensures the infrastructure can handle increased data loads while delivering faster, more reliable connectivity. The wireless element remains important, but it forms just one part of the overall upgrade.
With an expected total of 82 access points upon completion, the finished installation will provide consistent wireless connectivity across all 15 buildings, supporting the wide range of devices and applications used by students and staff.
Expected Completion and Next Steps
The phased delivery approach allows final installation stages to be completed by February, enabling the college to transition fully to the new network infrastructure at the start of the following academic term. The implementation of HPE Aruba technology, supported by equipment from VitrX, is designed to deliver consistent, high speed connectivity that enhances collaboration and learning across the campus.
A Partnership in Innovation and Excellence
Our collaboration with the college reflects a shared commitment to innovation, quality, and adaptability. By rebuilding the network from the ground up and integrating HPE Aruba technology, we are delivering a future ready solution that supports current needs while allowing for future growth.
We will continue sharing updates as the remaining phases progress, and we look forward to unveiling a fully connected next generation campus.
We have also worked closely with our partner VitrX, who supplied the equipment for this project. Their expertise and support have helped ensure the quality and reliability of the hardware used.
